It's been a poor summer on my part for reading, but after a trip to the slowly crumbling HMV and my boyfriends staff discount later, I was nose deep in the poetic reality of modern relationships that is this collection of short stories.
An overwhelming reminder of the everyday strength and struggles of the modern day woman, in these almost mundane settings, brought alive by the vivid and believable 'everyday' gals.
I've never been one for feminist novels, I tend to find them preachy and sexist towards men and a bit in-your-face. Atwood however highlights issues effortlessly with a blunt charm without being too direct.
And look at this lovely illustration I found.
It isn't the book cover but one of a series of interpretations of Atwood's novels by an artist named Becky Hatwell. Beautifully Fitting.
