There isn't enough soap in all of Lush to wash out Palahniuk's filthy mouth.
Choke is a dark tale (surprise surprise) about sex addiction, playing the system and unravelling the past.
I'm a massive fan of Palahniuk's work, having read quite a few of his books and falling in love with his audio CD's, him telling the early short story versions of some of his best novels.
So of course, i loved how it was written. I adore the use of repetition, and the relevant use of rhythm with his syllable choices at times is divine. The talent of making the reader utterly despise the protagonist to start with yet grow to empathise and relate as the story progresses despite the continuing corruption and manipulation handed out by the protagonist, is somewhat mesmerising.
However, this book is not one of his best.
The twist is too far fetched, and unconnected with all the established themes. A bit of a disappointment, still need to see how on earth they made that into a film. But credit to him, it's hard to keep people hooked when the expectations are so high. But that's not the way to go about keeping us gripped, Chuck.
