Angelique Houtkamp
An overwhelmingly influential tattoo artist from the Netherlands, currently residing in the quaint quiet town of Amsterdam. What better than a city to reflect a personality. Her water colour beauties glisten across tattoo reference books, magazines and webpages everywhere. And this christmas my Jesse got me a copy of 'Tattoo Mystique', it's so sexy, even the cover feels good to the touch.
Mmm embossed.
I also just so happened to buy two shiny tickets to the annual Brighton Tattoo Convention, taking place at the end of january. Unfortunately, Angelique isn't attending but a lot of other amazing artists shall be. I am currently in talks with Phil Kyle (also worth checking out) of Magnum Opus tattoo, Brighton, if a cancellation comes up during the convention i will be getting something along the lines of this absolute stunner of a babe on my left arm. To keep my gypsy head, Genevieve company, of course.
Her work is heavily influenced by the heavy lines and vivid shading of Sailor Jerry's work but with a feminine, softer appeal. Subjects are more often than not women, or nautical themed, and half woman-half animal images crop up frequently.
And why might you ask is she my new idol? A tall, stunning blonde, Angelique collects victorian images and likes tea cups and sweet things, lives in an old house built in 1900 on a dead end street in Amsterdam. She dreads the thought of central heating and white plain walls. Comes across as extremely intelligent and worldly yet so so down to earth. Coffee and her cat by day, beer and cigarettes by night. She refers to her husband Peter as her 'beau'.
I think i've said enough.
All hail Angelique Houtkamp.
