A Cake for Ines

It looks like a wedding cake, but it was in fact a birthday cake.

Heres a tip; don't transport cakes like this without a box on the tube during rush-hour.

Whats the point of getting engaged, if you're not going to have a big knees up!

So last week we had an amazing night with tons of friends in on of my favourite bars in Camden.

These were the invites I made for the night.

Playing cards were the theme (obviously) the paper roses on our tables were made with designs from the reverse of classic playing cards. Thanks to my best friend Jesse, who helped me make the centrepieces.

Clever folded sides to reveal information.

And we got to make envelopes.

So so much free paper and clever presentation ideas at the end.

Daisy's busy hands

To go along with our decades project I attempted my first ever moving image piece from stills of Daisy working away with some fabric.

It's really nothing great but at least I taught myself how to use iMovie.

Decade Clash- 30 hr Project

After spending the Easter break researching the 1920's, on going back to uni we were hit with the 30hr project (sleep and commutes not included). Choosing our own groups with skills to complement each others we were to clash our chosen decades and create an ambitious project conclusion based on a theme, event or occasion that represented our decades the 20's and 40's.

From our findings, the twenties saw votes for women, lavish embellishments, flapper girls; a new breed of social, smoking, drinking independent women. The forties was branded by the war time slogan "Mend and Make do", with men away at war, women were conquering all aspects of work, labour and homeliness. The bikini was also invented in this decade...and so to project this concept of female empowerment we chose to make a range of bikinis.

Using image transfer we put collected images of powerful 20's women onto this set, embellishing it with feathers in a lavish manner.

Image transfers onto found fabrics, merging twenties family portraits with the concept 'Mend and make do'.

Image transfer of a woman's letters to her husband in the 40's whilst away at war. Cotton buds for borders to emphasise the use of found materials.

Postcards from the twenties transferred onto fabric and finished with braided string.

Paper handmade roses made from a book dating from the 20's, epitomising femininity. 

A workers practical bikini with utility belt for tools.

40's inspired design with 20's embellishments. Final work presented on cloak rack.

Couldn't have even conceived of creating something so technical, ambitious and out of my comfort zone without these two very talented girls.

Amsterdam

I thought I'd spend my whole holiday taking photos and drawing.

Instead I took a time out, slept in late, drank beers at any time of day and walked for hours at a time with the boy. Here's a few of the snaps i did take.

When we arrived it was sunny but it soon fell grey over the canals

I work at Lush. The world never seems to want me to forget this.

The hells angels biker bar, filled with taxidermy and served beer in proper tankards where we got engaged.

Most Curious Parties- Vintage Wedding Fair

This saturday was spent at a Most Curious Parties event, their vintage wedding fair in the York Hall in Bethnal Green. Not only were there stalls, but catwalks, performances and workshops to get really hands on with. Whether you're planning a wedding or not, it was unmissable.

A day of nostalgia and femininity with more than a hint of the handmade.

I spent the day drinking tea in pretty china cups, taking photos and drooling over vintage dresses.

Stunning hand made collars

Assorted vintage must-haves, be it your wedding day or not.

1920's/30's box cameras with the intention to be used as centre pieces.

Considering i have around 15 old cameras, I think I might keep this idea in mind.

Silk gloves and pearls; the perfect attire for drinking fine tea.

Probably my favourite part of the day.

Fun to make and gorgeous as pins, hair pieces or bouquets. 

I've worn mine everyday since!

One of my favourite ideas, classy and everlasting button bouquets.

With paper crafts being my thing, this was up there as one of my favourite stalls of the day.
